Stir-fried cabbage with bacon

Serves 1

Points per serving: 3

2 tsp olive oil
1 onion, thinly sliced
2 x Sainsbury's BGTY bacon medallions, chopped 1.5pts
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1/2 Savoy cabbage, shredded



Heat the oil in a large frying pan, add the onion and soften for about 5 mins over a medium heat. Add the bacon and garlic and stir-fry for 2-3 mins, then add the cabbage. Cook, fairly gently, stirring occasionally, for 8-10 mins until cabbage is wilted and tender. Season to taste.

Another version:

Fried Cabbage with Bacon

Core recipe

1 lb(450g) shredded cabbage (any variety)
2oz (50g) bacon
1 onion finely chopped  
1 clove garlic crushed

Fry the onion and bacon in a large pan. Add the crushed garlic and cook for another 2-3 minutes.  Now stir in the shredded cabbage (which will seem rather bulky at first, but as the heat gets to it ,it will start to collapse).

Keep stirring it now and then so it cooks evenly.  Season to taste before serving.


The cabbage should cook in about 10 minutes and still retain its crispness.
But if you prefer it softer put a lid on the pan which will give it some steam.
